Longform generative art is art created with algorithms using a system of rules and free parameters defined by randomness.
The artist creates an algorithm, for example using the very popular p5.js library.
Inside this algorithm the artist defines how the artwork will look like but leaves some parts like object sizes, shapes, colors etc... to be defined later by randomness, using functions like random(), which outputs a random number between 0 and 1.
With this process, one piece of code suddenly becomes a variety of infinitely many possible outputs which can be explored by the collector.
When longform generative art was on the rise in 2021 with famous collections such as Fidenza by Tyler Hobbs, it was common that the collector would receive a random output of the algorithm when minting. EditArt presents a new paradigm where the collector can explore the output and choose one that they particularly like.
